Steps Of IVF Treatments
Ovarian Stimulation:
The Ivf handle starts with hormone infusions to invigorate the ovaries to deliver different eggs.Monitoring through blood tests and ultrasounds ensures that the ovaries are responding well .InVitro Fertilization (IVF) involves stimulating ovaries with a combination of fertility medications and hormones (generic or recombinant, based on preference and affordability) and retrieving oocyte(s) from the ovarian follicles.
Egg Retrieval:
Egg retrieval involves a minor surgical procedure where a needle is guided by ultrasound to collect mature eggs from the ovaries. Performed under sedation, the needle is inserted through the vaginal wall into the ovaries to aspirate the eggs. The procedure typically takes about 15-30 minutes. After retrieval, the eggs are immediately prepared for fertilization in the lab.
Sperm Collection:
Sperm collection involves providing a semen sample, usually through masturbation, in a private room at a fertility clinic. The sample is then analyzed for quality and quantity. In some cases, sperm may be collected via a procedure like testicular sperm extraction (TESE) if there are issues with ejaculation. The sample is processed and prepared for fertilization, either through direct insemination or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Fertilization & Embryo Culture:
During fertilization, eggs and sperm are combined in a lab. For IVF, this often involves direct insemination or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Once fertilized, the eggs develop into embryos, which are cultured in an incubator for 3 to 5 days. The embryos are monitored for growth and quality, with the best ones selected for transfer into the uterus or for cryopreservation.
Embryo Transfer:
Embryo transfer involves placing one or more embryos into the uterus using a thin, flexible catheter inserted through the cervix. The procedure is generally painless and guided by ultrasound. It typically takes about 10-15 minutes and is done without sedation. Following the transfer, you may be advised to rest briefly before resuming normal activities. Pregnancy tests are done about two weeks later to check for success.
